ENERCON E126 - The World's Largest Wind Turbine

This is the Enercon E-126, the first wind turbine with 6 MW rated power, rotor diameter: 126m (413ft), hub height: 135m(450ft). Two of these giant wind power units have been built for testing at an onshore location, Rysumer Nacken, near Emden, in the northwest of Germany.
Here each WPU is expected to produce about 18 Mio kWh per year, enough for more than 4,500 homes.

Severe Thunderstorm hits German Town

On May 28 in the late morning hours a supercell formed above Luxembourg, moved along the Belgian-German border and crossed the town of Moenchengladbach at 11 a.m. There was a rainfall of about 50 litres / square meter in less than an hour. There were about 10 minutes of almost complete darkness which was very unusual and eerie caused by those towering clouds reaching up to 13 km.

Katabatic Winds - Antarctica

Over Antarctica prominent cold katabatic winds are blowing for most of the year. This vid was taken near Hope Bay, it's a force 8 wind with minus 20 degrees Celsius which results in an apparent temperature felt on the exposed skin (wind chill) of about minus 50 degrees Celsius.

Prior to starting the engine from cold, the vaporiser has to be heated externally.
